How to Setup a Ride
Call our office at 515-432-5038 between 6:30 am and 5:00 pm Monday-Friday to get a ride. When you call, setting up a ride just takes a couple of steps.
The first time you setup a ride:
We need to know your name, address, phone number, date of birth, and your assistance needs so that we can enter you into our system. Then we need to know what day you want to go, where you want to go, and when you want to go.
Anytime after that:
We just need to know your name, what day you want to go, where you want to go, and when you want to go.
How Far Ahead to Call
For rides within Boone County:
Rides should be requested at least one business day prior to date of the trip. For example, if you would like a ride on Wednesday, you should call before 5:00 pm on Tuesday, or if you would like a ride on Monday, you should call before 5:00 pm on the previous Friday. Rides with BCT can be scheduled up to two weeks in advance of the date of the trip.
Note: Rides requested less than one business day in advance are made only when the schedule permits and are not always available. To ensure that you can get a ride, call at least one day ahead.
For rides outside Boone County and for special trips:
These rides should be requested at least one week prior to the date of the trip and can be made up to one month in advance of the date of the trip.
Changing a Scheduled Ride
If you find that you need to make a change to a ride, call BCT at 515-432-5038. Changes of time or location, except cancellations, should be made at least one business day in advance of the date of the ride for rides within Boone County. Changes requested less than one business day in advance are made only when the schedule permits and are not always available. To ensure that you can get your ride changed, call at least one day ahead.
Cancelling a Ride
To cancel a scheduled ride, call BCT at 515-432-5038. Rides should be cancelled at least 30 minutes in advance of the scheduled pickup time or the passenger will be charged the full fare for the trip. Or if the bus arrives at the pick-up location and the rider is not there or does not board the bus, then a "no show" charge equal to the full fare cost will be billed to the customer.
Checking Your Schedule
It never hurts to double check your schedule. If you are unsure whether you have a ride scheduled, need to double check when the bus is scheduled to pick you up, or have any other questions about your rides, call BCT at 515-432-5038. We are happy to review your schedule with you.
Not Sure When You will be Done & "Will Calls"
When you don't know what time you will need a return ride, for medical appointments, for example, you can setup what is called a "will call" ride. These rides are the same as regular rides except that they don't have a specific time scheduled to them. When you are ready to go, simply call BCT and let us know that you are ready, and the next available bus will come pick you up. "Will calls" should be set up in advance and have specified pickup and dropoff locations.
Having Someone Ride with You
You can have one attendant ride with you for no additional charge. Someone—spouse, parent, child, friend, health care provider—is considered an attendant if they are riding with you to provide you help or support. If you are going to have an attendant ride with you, please indicate that when you schedule the ride, so that we can save room for them on the bus. If your attendant needs a ride to a different location than you, that ride will be considered a separate trip and will cost the fare corresponding to that specific trip. If someone is riding with you to participate with you in your activities, such as shopping, or in their own activities, for example, going to their own medical appointments, that person is considered a guest and will be charged the corresponding fare.
Service animals are permitted to accompany a rider, and we ask that you notify Dispatch you when you set your trip up that your service animal will be riding with you . Service animals include guide dogs, signal dogs, and other animals trained to work or perform tasks for a person to assist them in living independently. Comfort animals are not considered service animals.
Grocery & Large Item Policy
The driver can help you carry bags or groceries to your door. However, since we are a public transportation service with schedules to keep, we limit the amount that the driver will help with to what he can carry in two trips from the bus to your door. And items must be of a reasonable weight. BCT drivers are not able to help you with large items such as TVs or large bags of pet food. All such items will not be permitted on the bus, unless you are able to carry them yourself.
Car Seats & Riding with Young Children
All children who are under the age of 3 years old are required to be seated in an appropriate child restraint (car seat) while riding the bus. If you have a child under 3 years old, you are responsible for providing an appropriate car seat and safely securing that car seat in the bus. BCT does not provide car seats. BCT will not transport without an appropriate car seat or when an appropriate car seat cannot be secured properly on the bus.
